The seemingly impossible, is possible.
Hans Rosling is a public health expert, director of Sweden’s Karolinska Institute, and founder of Gapminder, a non-profit that does amazing things with global data. This is a great introduction to essentially what is going on in the world. I also think the ending is pretty damm cool.

Access to finance
Mobile phones are the first communications technology with more users in developing countries than developed. They have a vast potential to make basic financial transactions possible anytime, anywhere for poor people. Mobile banking technology is one of the issues being discussed at ‘Next Generation Access to finance’ which you can watch streamed live via the World Banks website. Turn your speakers up loud as the sound is not too good.

Mission Impossible, wireless internet in Kingston.
After returning from a recent trip to Vietnam where wireless internet is plentiful, free and common as good Pho soup I decided to venture into a local town equipped with my shiny new laptop. Kingston being your middle of the road suburban market town would have plenty of cappuccino fuelled connectivity. I’ll be firing off emails and laughing at hapless youtube videos in no time I thought. With 10 times the per capita GDP of Vietnam internet access should be cheap and ubiquitous in the UK. But oh how I was wrong.
